Crowdsourcing Explained

The term “crowdsourcing” was coined by journalist and author Jeff Howe for a 2006 article he wrote as a contributing editor for Wired magazine. His White Paper definition of crowdsourcing is “the act of taking a job once performed by a designated agent (typically an employee or consultant) and outsourcing it to a generally larger group of people in the form of an open call, often using the internet”. His sound bite definition is a bit easier to remember: “It’s Wikipedia for everything else”.
