Gérard was educated at the University of Montreal in Montréal, Canada and is a licensed architect in the United States. His experience covers all aspects of architectural practice, including project management and construction administration. He worked for several local firms in quality control and as a specifier before joining Welton Becket and Associates in 1974 as head of specifications. In 1977 Gérard and Tedd Darby (now deceased) formed the firm Specifications Inc. (later ANC Consultants) where he has been a consultant in continuous private practice for more than 30 years.
Of the nearly 800 projects with which Gérard has been involved, some of the standouts include the California State Capitol and the Los Angeles City Hall restorations, the Getty Center for the Arts in Brentwood, the Getty Villa in Malibu, and the first gate of EuroDisney outside of Paris, France. Gérard is a past chairman of the Construction Specifications Institute’s Los Angeles Chapter Education Committee, and a former instructor of many of their short courses.
