David has been practicing architecture for nearly 35 years, the early portion of which he spent working in the construction trades where he developed an understanding of design and construction that to this day continues to serve as a guide. Since then he’s forged an extensive career as a project architect having significant experience with high-rise buildings and with the design and construction of building enclosures for facilities of all types and sizes. Most recently, David imparted maturity and a career’s worth of know-how to Gensler’s Los Angeles office as an in-house specifier for Renzo Piano’s Los Angeles County Museum of Art, for a 14-gate expansion of John Wayne Airport, and for LA Live! Residences and Hotel, a 54-story building consisting of three hotels stacked one upon another, an adjoining convention center, and a 14-screen movie theater, all of which are situated atop a multi-level subterranean garage.
As a former Technical Director and Associate Principal at Cannon Design, David understands from a leadership perspective the business value of good insight and sound technical choices made during the design process. His approach of moving beyond the traditional specifier role toward making use of specifications as an additional project quality control measure has drawn much appreciation from the project executives with whom he has worked. David has experience working on nearly all project types, most of which have been LEED® certified, including high-rise office buildings, healthcare, aviation, K-12, higher ed, institutional, commercial and retail.
David is a licensed architect in the state of California, a Certified Construction Specifier (CCS), and a member of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI). He is also a member of the Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, and a past member of both the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) and the Architectural Aluminum Manufacturer’s Association (AAMA). David has also served as a guest critic at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), and California Polytechnic State University.
