Andrew has been practicing architecture for more than 15 years, half of which as a designer and project architect. He then spent 2-1/2 years at the Getty Villa in Malibu, California, leading the executive architect’s 7-person on-site team responsible for construction administration of Machado+Silvetti’s award-winning design for the renovation and expansion of the original Getty Museum. The balance of Andrew’s time has been dedicated to writing specifications as a subconsultant to other specifiers, as an in-house specifier for the West Coast offices of Perkins+Will, and as the founder of AWCWEST.
Andrew has been either an employee or consultant to more than 30 architectural firms in five states, and has experience working on nearly all project types: healthcare, laboratory, K-12, higher ed, civic, aviation, detention, museum, commercial, retail, and multi- and single-family residential. He’s written all types of specifications for more than a hundred projects of all sizes located in nearly every climate zone: from the LEED® Platinum Diamond Valley Lakes Museum and Campus in California’s low desert to biotech research laboratories for AMGEN in Seattle; from a 60-story high-rise on Chicago’s Lakeshore Drive to the 1.5-million square foot New Clinical Building at John’s Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, and nearly everything in between. Andrew is a LEED® Accredited Professional, a Certified Construction Specifier (CCS), a Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA), and a member of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI). He is also a member of the American Society of Architectural Illustrators (ASAI), the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), and the International Code Council (ICC), having earned three separate certifications from the ICC: as a Plans Examiner, as a Building Inspector and as an Accessibility Plans Examiner/Building Inspector. Further, Andrew also earned his teaching credential from the state of California, at one time having taught adult vocational education in East Los Angeles for the the nation’s second largest public education entity, the Los Angeles Unified School District.
